How Motherhood Has Changed Some Famous Celebrity Mums

Lucy Liu, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood are a mere sampling of young Hollywood moms whose lives changed drastically after the births of their children. Most mums (and even some dads) find themselves ‘growing up’ right along with their kids. To many, this new found maturity inspires a desire to make a sideways upgrade from their mighty muscle cars to safer, more ‘adult’ vehicles such as minivans.

Being A New Mum In Hollywood

The Today Show recently spoke with a number of celebrity women who also happen to be new mums. What the mommies said about motherhood in general and their own babies in particular rang a bell with viewers.

American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson, had a baby boy earlier this year. Clarkson commented on how her life as a mother jibes with her music career. “I love what I do, but I feel like I relied on my career a lot for my self-worth. I’m a mother and a wife and have this whole other thing going on.”

Mother of two and movie actress Kristin Bell’s take on the whole motherhood thing was a bit less enchanted. “Why does everyone wake up screaming?” she wondered. “Like, why don’t they tell you that? Like, ‘They’re going to wake up screaming — for, like, four years.’ The moment you wake up, you’re in, like, a horror movie, ’cause everyone in the house is screaming bloody murder.”

TV star Lucy Liu expressed a more romantic view of parenting when she said, “Every day is just a miracle and a dream,” because everything is so different every day. You’re not even thinking about ‘Is it Monday or Tuesday?’ or what time it is anymore; you’re just thinking about how he’s changed from minute to minute and his reactions — also how you are and how you grow as a human being, being around another human being, like that.”

From Muscle Car to Minivan

There are all sorts of valid reasons why new parents tend to ditch the sports car and scoop up a minivan. Motor Trend magazine explains how cool it actually is to drive a soccer mom van. For one thing, minivans offer the greatest driver’s seat in town.

With features like captain’s chairs, ventilated seats, and built-in DVD entertainment centres for the kids, minivans are great for busy parents who seem to spend as much time driving their kids around as they spend at home.

Family Fun In a Minivan

Today’s minivans have a lot more get-up-and-go than most older model vans. Families who enjoy taking road trips together seem to be especially fond of heavy-duty minivans with the horsepower to tow a camper or trailer full of recreation gear. The Dodge Grand Caravan fulfills these purposes perfectly and is one of the most popular minivans in Canada.

The time to enjoy motoring about with your kids is now. Pile ’em into the minivan, fasten your seat belts, and head out to see the sights. After all, it won’t be long before your kids want to borrow the keys to the minivan and go cruising Canadian roadways without you.
