Australians can now fill up their cars and delay payment thanks to Afterpay’s “no payment upfront” feature, which has officially expanded to include fuel purchases under $500.

For eligible customers who have activated this feature in the Afterpay app, it means you can leave the bowser without paying anything upfront. Your first instalment will instead fall due 8 to 14 days after purchase, with the remaining repayments following on schedule.

Petrol stations accepting Afterpay “no payment upfront”

The following fuel networks are confirmed as participating in the rollout:

  • Ampol Foodary
  • Shell Reddy Express
  • OTR (selected locations)
  • Metro Petroleum (selected locations)

These outlets are the first to officially support the option, giving drivers more breathing room when managing fuel costs.

Petrol stations not currently accepting Afterpay “no payment upfront”

Other major networks have not been confirmed by Afterpay as supporting this feature at this stage. Customers filling up at these service stations should expect to pay upfront as usual:

  • BP / BPme
  • Coles Express
  • United Petroleum
  • 7-Eleven
  • Independent service stations not affiliated with participating brands

While these brands may reconsider in future, there’s currently no confirmation that Afterpay’s “no payment upfront” option is available at their pumps.

Key exclusions

Even at participating stations, the feature does not cover:

  • Fuel purchases over $500
  • Grocery or convenience items
  • Gift cards and non-fuel transactions

How to check if your station supports it

The simplest way to verify is through your Afterpay app, which will display the “$0 upfront” option if it’s available at the station where you’re filling up. Some outlets may also display in-store signage confirming their participation.

What this means for drivers

The rollout demonstrates Afterpay’s continued expansion beyond retail into everyday essentials. With petrol prices remaining volatile, the option provides some Australians with greater flexibility in managing their cash flow—though customers should remember that repayments still need to be made on time to avoid fees.
