Currently, in late January 2025, McDonald’s in Australia has Pokémon cards as part of their Happy Meals again. This new set is pretty neat too as it includes some cool legendary Pokemon cards, whilst many years ago the McDonald’s promos were just reprints of basic common cards. That being said I doubt anything is too playable competitively. But it’s a nice little mini 15-card set that kids will enjoy.
That being said, there is a lot of buzz around the new Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket app (which I’m a massive fan of) and how to get bonus items in the game if you order through the McDonald’s app.
How to get free McDonald’s Pokémon codes in Australia:
Unfortunately, that promotion is only running in the USA. You cannot get free codes for the Pokémon TCG Pocket game in Australia or anywhere else. However, if you have a friend or family member in the USA, they can get you the codes via their US app. The code will go to the email address that they used with their account.
However, it probably isn’t worth the effort to get them to go out of their way, as you can only use one code per account and the rewards are just 24 Pack Hourglasses and 12 Wonder Hourglasses. This is equal to 18 Pokegold which is worth about $5 AUD. Luckily for us in Australia, these items are things you can just buy with regular iTunes gift cards and are nothing exclusive. If it were cosmetic items or promo cards, I think everyone would flip out. But no, it’s just in-game currency basically.
How to Collect The Codes in the USA
- Download the McDonald’s App (US version).
- Under settings, you must opt-in to email and rewards before the purchase to receive your in-game Pokémon TCG Pocket Rewards. You must opt into both Rewards and email communication, 2 toggles in total.
- Order a Pokémon Happy Meal in the McDonald’s App Only.
- Check your email for an in-game Pokémon TCG Pocket app gift code and a link to your rewards.
- Click the link in the email and enter your code/Support ID on the rewards website.
- Once your code has been redeemed, your rewards will automatically appear in the gifts section of the Pokémon TCG Pocket app
Other ways to get free codes in Australia
If you are part of a Facebook or Discord group for Pokémon TCGP, you may find Americans who have bought multiple Happy Meals to collect the codes between the dates of January 21, 2025 to February 24th 2025. As the codes can only be used once per account, many are giving theirs away to fellow fans of the game. It’s really not worth buying unless you send them a dollar or two.
Exactly what are these codes worth in AUD?
As mentioned, the value of 24 Pack hourglasses and 12 Wonder Hourglasses is 18 Pokégold and ($1.49/5)*18= $5.36 AUD = almost the price of the cheapest Happy Meal you can get but at least someone gets cards (if in stock) as well as food. But it’s really not worth the effort if you don’t live in the US or can’t get the codes for free from someone who already has lots to give away.
