When I stopped for petrol this morning, I was surprised to see signs all over my local 7-Eleven advertising Daniel’s Donuts, a Melbourne-based doughnut company that began in 2016. This caught my attention because 7-Eleven has long stocked Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and it seemed they might have switched to this rising local competitor.

After paying for my petrol, I checked the doughnut display and was even more surprised to find that 7-Eleven is now stocking both Krispy Kreme and Daniel’s Donuts. It’ll be interesting to see which brand ends up being more popular, perhaps only one will remain over time and the other will be axed.

Since Krispy Kreme closed many of its standalone stores in 2010, 7-Eleven has become a key distributor in Australia. Daniel’s Donuts now poses a serious challenge to that dominance.
It’ll be interesting to watch how this competition develops.
